!Help for !Patience v0.95ß
PURPOSE :
---------
Well, everybody knows what to do with a game of patience. This version
is just like the one from Acorn except it has larger and prettier cards
and dragging is solid instead of outline. This is a test version, so play
it a lot and try if you can crash it.
COPYRIGHT MATTERS :
-------------------
!Patience is FREEWARE. This means that you may freely distribute it, as
long as you include all files unaltered and don't charge any money for it.
(This doesn't include disc- and p&p costs for PD-libraries.)
HOW TO USE :
------------
Doubleclick on the !Patience icon and the game will install itself on the
iconbar. Clicking on this icon will open the main window displaying the
standard layout of cards of a game of patience. You can now play the game
in the usual way by dragging and dropping the cards or rows of cards.
Clicking Adjust on a card will move it to its own stack if this move is
possible. Clicking Select on a card facing down will turn it over. Clicking
Select on the deck of upside down cards will turn one over onto the pile
from where you can take the card to where you want it. If you have moved
all the cards from the deck to the pile, clicking Select on the place where
the deck was will put all the cards back upside down again.
When you have managed to move all the cards to their appropiate stacks they
will start to bounce around the window. You can stop this by clicking any
mouse button. As soon as the card that is currently bouncing has moved out
of the window a new game will start.
Maybe this all sounds a bit confusing but if you start to play with the game
you will notice that using it is in fact very easy and intuitive.
Clicking the Menu button while the mousepointer is over the window will
bring up a menu with the following entries:
Deal cards - Choosing this will start a new game abandoning the game you
were playing.
Kings only - If this option is enabled you can only move a King into an
empty place. This is the standard behaviour. If you turn this
option off you can place any card you like in an empty spot
thus making the game a lot easier.
WARNING :
---------
I don't take ANY responsability for damage or losses caused by using this
program! This means that you use it entirely at your own risk!
THANKS TO :
-----------
A big thanks must go to Pervect (or is it Zorack now? :-) of Topix who wrote
the fast SpriteOps which make it possible to obtain smooth redrawing of the
screen, even on the slowest Archimedeses, like my own A340.
And thanks again to Pervect for rewriting his fast SpriteOps so that they
work in modes with more than 256 colours too.
And my standard thanks to Logic of Topix for letting me copy his !Help file
layout.
REMARKS :
---------
!Patience uses the DragASprite module to enable you to drag solid cards in
the game. Owners of RISC OS 2 don't have this module so I have included the
module from RISC OS 3. Of course the copyright of this module remains with
Acorn. To be honest, I haven't tested whether this approach will work on a
machine with RISC OS 2 so tell me if you ran into problems.
Because this is a beta-version, and because I don't know the rules of the
real patience game I haven't included any limitation on the times you can
turn all cards from the deck over onto the pile. There also isn't a fancy
method of stepping through the deck of cards. You will get the cards one
after another until you have moved all the cards to the pile.
Also missing is a scoring system in any possible form.
And last but not least: If there is anything you would like to see added to
the game, or if you have found bugs please contact the author.
HISTORY :
---------
0.10 - 0.80 Development versions. Never released.
0.90ß First test release. Uses fast SpriteOps.
0.95ß Second test release. Uses the new fast SpriteOps that work in
modes with more than 256 colours on the Risc-PC too.
